Pisang Peak, located in the Annapurna region, is a popular trekking peak that offers an exciting climbing experience. The mountain’s western flank is protected by a hanging glacier, presenting a moderate challenge, while the western end of the ridge features large rock slabs that make the climb more technical. The first ascent of Pisang Peak was accomplished by a German expedition in 1955.
Rising above Pisang village and surrounding yak pastures, Pisang Peak features a uniform slope of ice and snow leading to its final summit pyramid. Despite its impressive appearance, it is considered one of the lower trekking peaks in Nepal.
To reach the base camp, trekkers follow the Annapurna Circuit route to Upper Pisang (Pisang village). From there, the trail ascends through sparse forests and pastures to a Kharka at 4,380 meters (14,366 ft), an ideal location for the base camp.
The high camp is established at 5,400 meters on a shoulder of the South-West Ridge. From late November to the end of March, the high camp is covered in snow. A well-defined ridge leads to the final steep snow slope, which is manageable and culminates at the summit. Descending is done along the same route.
